“Whoever walks in integrity walks securely, but he who makes his ways crooked will be found out.”
“The mouth of the righteous is a fountain of life, but the mouth of the wicked conceals violence.”
“Hatred stirs up strife, but love covers all offenses.”Proverbs 10:9, 11-12 (ESV)
I recently had the chance to watch a docuseries about the Royal Family in England. Specifically, there was an episode about the wedding, marriage, separation and ultimately divorce between Charles and Diana. For years at the start of their relationship, they acted happy together in front of the public, but the reality was that their marriage started to fall apart early on and within a few short years from their nuptials, each of them was having an affair.
This is the notion in Proverbs 10:9. No matter what one does in front of others, if integrity is lacking, the truth will come out. Nobody can keep up a charade forever. Proverbs 10 is largely focuses on these kinds of differences. Integrity vs. Crookedness. Righteous vs. Unrighteous. In every case, practicing wisdom wins.
A short, matter-of-fact lesson for us all.
Wisdom wins. Integrity wins. Righteousness wins.
That is the truth in the long-term.
